Welding with Pops is built around his actual welding mask, custom painted with a wild monster face by a young friend of his. The mask anchors the composition against an explosive background of hot-rod flames: vivid reds, oranges, and gold referencing custom car culture. Photographs of a welding torch, flame and sparks are layered and transformed into something saturated and surreal, color pushed well past what the eye can register and into the world of memory.
