Welding with Pops is built around his actual welding mask, custom painted with a monstrous face by a young friend of his. The mask anchors the composition against an explosive background of hot-rod flames: vivid reds, oranges, and gold referencing custom car culture. A welding torch crosses the frame trailing a purple arc of light. Photographs of real welding flames are layered and transformed into something saturated and surreal, color pushed well past what the eye can see and into the world of memory.
