In Japanese tradition, a gift of a thousand origami cranes carries wishes for peace, healing, and love. That tradition became this painting. In the foreground, a glass jar sits with its lid open, colorful paper cranes contained within. One by one the paper cranes come alive, flying, reaching for the light above. Colorful, alive, paper wings catching the light, ascending through an angular beam of sunlight that cuts through a somber sky. As they climb higher, they transform: paper becoming feather, origami becoming real, contained becoming free. The painting holds the feeling of holding onto anything too long. Sometimes to have more, you must let go.
