At Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, I was drawn to a small boy standing alone before the surf, bracing himself as he challenged the waves to knock him down. They never did. That stillness and courage became the heart of this large acrylic painting. The child remains small in the composition while deep teals, churning whites, and soft blue foam rise behind him. Rushing sea and sand at his feet taunt him. His reflection stays almost as still as he is. The scale heightens the force of the ocean and the quiet bravery of one little man.
