At Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, I was drawn by a small boy standing alone before the surf, bracing himself as he challenged the waves rushing in to knock him down. They never did. That stillness and courage became the heart of this large 36 x 48 acrylic painting. The child remains small in the composition while deep teals, churning whites and soft blue foam rise behind him. Rushing sea and sand at his feet taunt him. His reflection is as still as he. The scale heightens the force and vastness of the ocean against the courage of one little man.
