Between the Lines #1 takes an ordinary succulent and gets close enough that it stops being ordinary. The oil and acrylic canvas moves through the rosette of a single plant: yellow-greens and lime, deep purple-maroon shadow, blue-green offshoots below, cream light tracing the leaf edges. The closer you look, the more the spaces between the leaves open up — shadow and light holding as much presence as the plant itself. The series began with a simple idea: look closer, and the familiar becomes something else entirely.
